GAE looks to impact pension case decision
In a case that could have far-reaching consequences, GAE recently filed a 'friend of the court' brief with the Georgia Supreme Court regarding the City of Atlanta pension fund case arguing to reverse the trial court's decision. The trial court had earlier ruled that the City can unilaterally change retirement benefits for current employees as opposed to implementing changes for new employees hired after a certain date. If allowed to stand, the trial court's ruling could open the door to TRS & ERS to change the benefits for current beneficiaries.

A Salute to Georgia's Teachers
On not just this National Teacher Day and National Teacher Appreciation Week, we should all celebrate the dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment of those who have chosen teaching as a profession. I am continually amazed at the accomplishments of our teachers who despite constant criticism and blame, lack of resources, constantly changing directives, and salary and benefits inconsistent with the professionals they are, continue to do more to ensure the American dream than any other profession. So on behalf of myself and the Georgia Association of Educators, I personally salute, and thank each and every one of you for what you do for your school, your community, your state and your country.
-- GAE President Dr. Sid Chapman
Comment on APS Sentencing
"It is a sad day for all concerned. We regret the Court has made a significant contribution to the criminalization of the education profession. Sentencing the APS educators to serve jail time is unjust and disproportionate." -- GAE President Dr. Sid Chapman --- See full comments
