PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.
GAE is proud to offer Georgia students an opportunity to exhibit their proficiency in the art of spelling. If a participant is successful they can advance from the school system level all the way to the state and finally to the national spelling bee.
Additional events of interest to the public education community.

Distressed that 25 percent of the country's World War I draftees were illiterate, representatives of the NEA and the American Legion met in 1919 to seek ways to generate public support for education.
On National Teacher Day, thousands of communities take time to honor their local educators and acknowledge the crucial role teachers play in making sure every student receives a quality education.
